Ella has been bugging to get her hair cut and I finally gave in. One good thing with this plan is she can now easily learn to brush her own hair. It’s hard to learn when your hair is waist length.
So we went with a cute little bob. Even with short hair it’s still girly.
Of course, we donated Ella’s pony tail to Locks of Love. I decided I would donate too. They only need a minimum 10 inches and since my hair was below my waist I figured it would be a good trim for the ends. I expected my hair would be bra-strap length.
Well you know the saying ‘no good deed goes unpunished’??
The woman at the First Choice (never going there again) cut off 16 INCHES and then of course had to keep cutting ‘to make it straight’!!!! I haven’t had my hair this short since the 90’s when I was at university. I had a hard time not bursting into tears. It’s so short I can’t really braid it or do anything with it. And no, short hair is not cooler! My braids were much cooler than all this hair prickling at my neck. I’ve given up on hairdressers here in Renfrew County. I’ve lived here for 11 years and have never found one I could trust with my long hair (not even for trims). I’m going to go back to my hairdresser in Bowmanville. Jane would be horrified at what happened to my hair. She always loved it long. So now trips home will include a stop at Tina’s yarn shop and a stop at Jane’s when I need a trim. Boy, I sure hope my hair grows quickly…
oh dear! I am so sorry you got a hair cut you did not want!! I still go to my hairstylist in Ottawa, which means I get to her 1 or 2 x a year now! Can you put it up in a high pony-tail/bun? that’s what I do with mine, which is about your length, though maybe a little longer by now… it keeps it more cool and off the shoulders in any case! Ella looks super cute 🙂 Your’s is nice too but I totally get the disappointment of having too much cute off, I’ve had that before too … our fast is done now for the Apostles and we are having chicken burgers for lunch, I’m excited! :)))
It’s long enough for a pony but not a bun. The problem is ponytails have always given me headaches. That’s why I always braid my hair. This cut is a very inconvenient length. Not ‘short’ and out of the way and not long enough to do anything with.
Hi! Your new haircut is pretty! I’m sorry it’s not what you wanted though. i understand that. I get my hair cut when we go back home to GA and the lady doing mine complained it’s so 1980s. I literally wanted to leave right then because I’m paying her to fix my hair, not whine about how it is. UGH. I just cut mine at home. It might look nappy but I like it. I also don’t have to come up with 30 minutes of conversing to a random stranger.
It’ll grow out though so don’t worry! Can you wear some coverings or scarves? That’ll keep it off your neck and out of the way. I agree about the bun, I have a clippy for thick hair and I use that when they boogered up my cut.
That’s fairly rude, you didn’t ask her opinion of your hair. I think that must be an American thing, thinking you can comment on how people look. I hear that from women who cover in the States, they get all sorts of comments and questions.
Isn’t making conversation at the hair dresser’s the worst?! Not only are the ‘capes’ the most unflattering thing ever (especially if you are a bit heavy) and you are sitting there staring at yourself in the mirror (not something I usually do) but then you have to ramble and make conversation 🙂 Oh well, that’s all over because I’m going back home for trims and I know I can trust Jane or Tracy with my hair. Conversation will be easy too because we can talk about Ella and the farm.
Oh Dear Paula. How brave you are. I only think about cutting my hair but never ever do it. Sometimes when the sweat pours down my neck I think how nice it would be to be cut short but then I remember the hat situation come winter and say forget it. I’ll bun it up! Just want to let you know I am back posting, a little, and that I think you are very beautiful, long and short of it.
Marlyn
Marlyn!! So good to see you are back. I was thinking of you the other day and wondering how things were going.
Thanks, this hair is taking some getting used to. Colin keeps reminding me that it’s longer every day 🙂
I was thinking of you too. Isn’t that something! Another weird summer. Like the cool nights though. Guess we are in for a hot spell this week and of course more rain. We joke and say its going to rain every Tuesday because of the kids soccer night. So far that’s pretty much been true.
I stop the computer all together when life became difficult. Dat died last year and it has taken me a lot of time to get over it. I have mom to care for now and she is difficult to deal with. Her health is terrible and I need a lot of outside care.I joke around and say my job is taking care of mom, my hobby is farming. But really I spend about three full days a week caring for her needs while she sits around and knits. Lot frustrating. Good thing for her is I am an energized bunny.
It’s been a really topsy-turvy year or so for us too. We lost Colin’s mom suddenly before Christmas 2012. And then his dad remarried last November!
Your mom is very lucky to have you. I hope you are taking care of yourself too.
