It’s a little blurry, but we did take the picture with the camera through the telescope viewing lens. But this is Jupiter last night. We could see 4 of the moons and a ring across Jupiter. It was very cool. Ella thought it was great and kind of scary being outside in the dark. This is the first time Colin has had his telescope out since we were married. We need to make time for it more.
The moon was nearly full (it is full tonight) and was not being helpful for star-gazing. But we did get some great looks at all the craters and things on the moon. Colin has a special lens to put on the telescope so we don’t blind ourselves. The moon is like looking at a welding torch, so bright. We’ll have to take the telescope out on the dark of the moon one of these days.

I found your entry interesting do I’ve added a Trackback to it on my weblog :)…
Nicholas and I used to do some stargazing in our first years together. He studied astrophysics at U of T, and my father is an amateur astronomer. We sold our old scope a while ago, and with Nicholas’s diminished vision, it wouldn’t be very useful anyhow. But you can see quite a bit with just binoculars, for those interested who don’t have a scope.
Before meeting me and having Ella, Colin spent a lot of time with his telescope. I took an astronomy course at university. It was a very watered down version so that all the ‘art’ students could get their ‘science’ course to graduate 🙂 It was kind of interesting but kind of hard. A lot more math (without calculator) than I would have thought. I met my very good friend Karen in that class. We muddled through together 🙂
