Wow, March already. The last few days we’ve been waking up to -20 C or so, but by the afternoon the temperature has been flirting with 0 C. Can’t really complain though people around here have really been trying. I’m not understanding all the ‘it’s not spring yet’, ‘stupid groundhog’ type comments I’ve been seeing on Facebook. I read those and think to myself “um, it’s only February, in Ontario…”. You don’t start expecting ‘spring’ until the middle of March (at the earliest) and you don’t start calling it late until well into April. Somehow people have started to think the ‘early spring’ groundhog forecast means full spring in February.
Speaking of the ridiculously unpredictable February weather, we finally have Ella’s birthday party re-booked. We found a date that works for all her little friends (hockey). I may have to drive a pair of them but their Mom’s a doula and you can’t schedule babies -ha ha.
Oh yeah, Colin and I were out for a ride around the fields on the snowmobile yesterday. It tipped me off (fell through trail and bad shocks apparently). I stepped off the trail to wait for Colin to get things fixed. I ended up thigh deep in the snow!! There is so much snow out there in the fields you lose all perspective. I had no idea it was that deep. It also made getting back over to the trail difficult.
Ella and I had a good time at the homeschool evening. Only a couple of Mom’s turned up, but 2 of her friends were there. There was also a whole ‘herd’ of little girls (4 I think) and they quite took to Ella. She’s never been ‘mauled’ by a herd of little girls and she loved it. She’s usually the youngest at family gatherings and such.
It’s Colin’s birthday on Saturday. We decided to take a weekend out at our favourite B&B before he gets busy cleaning and cropping. Grandma and Ella will be here to ‘babysit’ the house/eggs/dog/cat. So I’m going to be busy making food for the weekend and getting the house tidied up.
Monday:
beef noodle hamburger helper -Ella’s favourite (made with almond milk of course)
Tuesday: Shrove Tuesday
pancakes -of course, doughnuts too if I get ambitious
Wednesday:
Thursday:
Salisbury steak -whole meal in the crockpot
Friday:
Wilno Tavern -probably perogi and cabbage rolls
Saturday:
slow roasted pork with Memphis dust -yes, this is how I cook when we are on holiday too
Sunday:
leftover pork
