Last Saturday saw the final day for this season at the Deep River Farmers’s Market.

As you can see it was rather damp  🙂  It was actually pouring when we arrived and we huddled under the tent for a while before setting up.  We had a great turn out.  Seems a little rain doesn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Deep River folks.

We had such a great season up in Deep River.  It far exceeded our expectations and hopes.  The people couldn’t have been nicer -customers and the volunteers and vendors.  We made some good friends that I look forward to seeing again next spring.

Thank you to everyone who made it such a fabulous Market season.  Don’t forget our pork is available at the Farm and the Highway locations all year.

Last week was so lovely and cool, or at least not humid.  Not sure what this week will hold.  Ella and I have some exciting plans, we’re going rock hounding.  There are some mines over in Quadeville (1.5 hrs away) are open to the public.  The one we are going to for sure is a rose quartz mine.  Ella is a little rock hound just like Auntie Belinda and she should have a ball.  It’s so hard making a menu when it’s hot.  Lunches are going to be hit and miss this week, likely a lot of sandwiches.

Monday:

tomato sandwich

tacos

Tuesday:

pb&h

leftover pork -yum love pork cooked on the wood bbq

Wednesday:

tuna sandwiches

crock pot bbq meatballs -meatballs from freezer cooking

Thursday:

??

slow cooker pork cacciatore

Friday:

??

crock pot bbq chicken -freezer cooking

Saturday:

Market day in Deep River

leftover pork cacciatore

Sunday:

??

leftover chicken

Wow, Farm Girl Friday already!!  The Farm Girlie remains under the weather, though her throat is feeling much better.  She even woke up hungry.  Unfortunately she now has a sick tummy, though we think it might be more hunger and too much sniffing.

Things in the gardens are looking much better.

The beans are coming along nicely.  We get the hot weather they are calling for and we should see blooms soon.  The dill should be ready for the Deep River Farmers’ Market next week.

Carrots -Yum!

And of course, the piece d’resistance:

Tomatoes!!!  I can’t wait for them to ripen.  I’m tired of buying tomatoes.  Though I must say, Walmart has been very good  at having Canadian or at least American tomatoes all winter.  There was only one or two times that I couldn’t buy tomatoes because they were all Mexican.  Which is more than I can say for No Frills -they are just now starting to carry Canadian tomatoes.  This drives me crazy because Colin’s uncle is in the fruit business and they grow tomatoes ALL YEAR down by Windsor.  They have to sell their tomatoes to the States.

Now all we need is for the right amounts of rain at the right times and it looks like a great year.  But isn’t that what farmers say every year  🙂

Wow, we had such a fabulous day yesterday at the First Deep River Farmers’ Market.  It was so crazy that I didn’t even get a chance to take any pictures!  Luckily there were some great photographers on hand.

It was really nice because they have lots of volunteers, so some weeks if I have to go by myself I know there will be help.  This was just before opening at 10.

This was about 5 minutes later.  We brought nearly twice as much meat as we usually do to Renfrew and were basically sold out in an hour!  How amazing is that?!  I actually phoned Grandma in Beachburg and she and Ella went by the house to grab the bit of pork left there and brought it up to us.  It was like tracking Santa’s sleigh, customers kept coming by and checking her progress  🙂 We then sold just about everything Grandma brought up too.  I even sold my smocked sundress -in fact I could have sold it twice.

It was such an amazing day (well 3 1/2 hrs).  We had a better day than even the Taste of the Valley in Cobden, which I didn’t think we could top.

In light of the day we had yesterday, we are updating our farmers’ market schedule as follows:
