A beautiful, cool morning today.  I’m busy making peach jam.  Ella’s outside on her swing with her iPod.

Ella and I are going on a lunch date into Pembroke today.  She has a bunch of Minecraft videos to show me and we need the free wifi for that.  Ella’s friend Darwyn is coming over later in the week so that will be fun too.  Ella and I are going to Pickering this weekend.  Ella and Uncle Stefan need to do something with her Xbox for the new story-mode Minecraft and we didn’t get to visit with Great-Grandma last time, so we’re heading down again before school starts.

Monday:

McD’s

spaghetti

Tuesday:

hot dogs

tenderloin (likely in the crock pot)

Wednesday:

sandwiches

leftover tenderloin

Thursday:

BBQ pizza

crock pot chicken and dumplings (I’ll find the recipe later)

Look what appeared on my kitchen counter:

Tomatoes from the garden -finally!!!  Thank goodness we aren’t depending on the garden for food or income this year.  We would starve.  I’m going to have to buy beans and tomatoes for canning.

We had a fun family trip yesterday, but I still have to get the pictures onto the computer so you’ll have to wait.

It dropped to 9C (49F) last night so the house is nice and cool.  It was nice and cool on Saturday too so I baked 4 large loaves of bread and a cake.  I’m much happier when the house can stay cool.  I do need the constant ‘chance of afternoon showers’ EVERY SINGLE DAY to go away.  I’ve got a mountain of laundry waiting (I don’t use the dryer).

Monday:

chip truck

pork chops -tomatoes, beans, and peas from the garden

Tuesday:

sandwiches

chicken roll-ups (from freezer)

Wednesday:

pizza

roast pork

Then leftovers in various ways for the rest of the week.  Boy I wish it wouldn’t be so hot.  It would make menu planning so much easier.

Had a great weekend at my sister’s, it was even better because COLIN CAME TOO!!!  I love the colours they used in the new house.  It’s still full of boxes, but I’m sure they will be unpacked soon.  Ella really enjoyed the pool, especially since it’s in-ground and she can jump in.  They also rented a pontoon boat on Rice Lake.  Ella caught 2 fish (the only 2 caught all day).  They were only blue gill sun fish, but better than nothing.

I did groceries this morning before it got too crazy hot.  The outdoor thermometer says 33 C (91.4F) but that doesn’t include the crazy humidity.  It was only 13C (55F)when we got up this morning so the house doesn’t feel too bad (so long as you don’t move much or turn on the oven.  I may not be happy, but the corn is loving this weather.

Tuesday:

too hot and tired, we’re going to the Chip Truck

Wednesday:

lunch meat sandwich

BBQ’d ribs     Metro had some nice ribs on sale this week

Thursday:

Ella’s got a play date after lunch so we’ll hit McD’s

BBQ chicken roll-ups (from freezer and done in toaster oven)

Friday:

lunch meat sandwiches

leftover ribs

Saturday:

hamburgers

Sunday:

to be decided

Wow, two nice cool days in a row!  Actually, it’s raining today and I’m a little chilly (that’s NOT a complaint, just a comment).  Makes me so much happier during the day when I can sleep at night.

The girls are heading to Pickering for the weekend to see Belinda and Stefan’s new house.  Ella’s excited.  I’m excited for the a/c and the heated in-ground pool -and to see my sister too of course.

I’m not going to worry about planning lunches.  I roasted a chicken last week (9lbs) so there’s lots of chicken left and half the time we just have sandwiches,

Monday:

magic chicken pie -a new recipe that I can cook in my toaster oven.  I need to find a recipe for Bisquick because I don’t buy that stuff.

Tuesday:

pork chops on the BBQ

Wednesday:

leftover chicken pie

Thursday:

roast pork -so Daddy has something to eat this weekend.

The weather has been better this weekend which means it actually cooled off over-night.  I’d be much happier about the hot and stupid humid weather if you could guarantee me a nice cool night.  It’s still only 19 C outside so I still have the windows open.  It gets so dark and dreary in the house once I have to close up the windows and curtains, but that’s the only way to try to keep the house comfortable in the summer.

Ella started summer soccer camp today.  It’s supposed to rain, so hopefully Pembroke doesn’t get too much.  I know how soccer keeps going until the lightning starts.  I SO appreciate that Grandma takes Ella to camp.  It’s from 9-12.  When you live 20ish minutes from town it makes it kind of awkward to run home.  So Grandma takes her knitting and her puzzle book (and lawn chair) and hangs out in town.

As usual, I’ll be trying to get laundry washed and dried in between the raindrops and trying not to melt.

Monday:

sandwiches

baked tacos (with leftover roast beef)

Tuesday:

pizza

BBQ chicken

Wednesday:

pizza

hamburgers

Thursday:

chicken Caesar salad

pork chops

Friday:

sandwiches

stir-fry

Saturday:

chicken Parmesan casserole (from freezer)

Sunday:

Happy 4th of July to my American friends!

vintage fourth-of-july postcard … More:

We had a great time at the ‘cottage’.  I love that the B&B is its own separate house.  It’s bigger than our house!  The weather wasn’t the greatest.  The first day was very wet.  That didn’t stop Ella and Daddy from fishing.  Luckily, there’s a screened in ‘shade shack’ (complete with ping-pong table).  I set up my tunes and my reading and had a great afternoon.

Lots more sunshine on Friday (though still had some rain).  Colin and Ella caught lots of bass.  Ella’s funny, she’ll cut up worms and such for bait, but she doesn’t want to hold her own fish yet.

Daddy almost landed a 2+ft pike.  It was just in front of Ella in this picture, but just as I clicked it jumped completely out of the water and spat out the hook.

This is the fairies’ creek that is usually just a little babbling brook.

Daddy did manage to land one pike -thanks to the great help from his ‘net girl’.

Lots of wildlife this year.  There were swarms of dragonflies.  There was a garter snake in the canoe with Daddy when he had to paddle out to get the line off the dead tree.  There was a dinner plate sized snapping turtle -maybe that’s Snappy who we found a few years ago?  Ella caught this little guy, this is Sheldon the painted turtle.

Something really cool, there were lots of tadpoles in the weeds along the shore.  They were in all stages of development.  Some barely had any legs starting right up to almost no tail left.

The fireworks were fabulous.  It really is amazing how a little village of 600 can put on such a show.

We didn’t want to go home.  Colin and I could stay there forever.  Ella gets homesick.  It’s funny how Ella misses home after only a few days, even when she’s with Colin and I.

Found a beautiful double rainbow.

What’s cooking this week?

Monday:

subs

spaghetti

Tuesday:

leftover subs

McDonald’s -Ella’s last day of swimming

Wednesday:

pizza (likely on the BBQ)

hamburgers

Thursday:

pizza

roast beef on the BBQ

Friday:

sandwiches

pork chops

Saturday:

leftover roast beef

Sunday:

Don’t forget to check out I’m an Organizing Junkie for more ideas.

A bunch of Ella’s new school books arrived while we were away.

I didn’t do too much knitting while we were away.  My elbow is still acting up (I may have to give in and see the RNP).   Some times it’s nice to have a whack of uninterrupted (except for fish pictures) time for reading.

Book of Negroes” was really good.  We didn’t get a chance to watch the mini-series this year, though I like to read the book first.

Last weekend you’ll remember was A&S day.  I’ve been wanting to have an impressive project to take, but most times it’s just been knitting.  This time I got my act together and had some embroidery to take.  This is the ruffle for my new petticoat.

Sorry for the poor lighting.  Next time I’ll make sure to find some sunshine.

Finally some sunshine.  Colin and Dad hard at the planting.

A very happy sight to see last week – Hard Red Spring Wheat.

475 acres in 11 days, plus 2 days planting for a neighbour too.  One tuckered out Farmer.  We ended up with about 25 acres that just won’t/can’t be planted this year.  Some is STILL underwater and those not underwater are very, very squishy.  It is such a relief to have the crops finally planted.

Look at this beauty growing under my laundry stand.  I have had columbine and Granny’s Bonnets in my garden for years and I’m always amazed at the new combinations that pop up from year to year.  I’ll have to watch for seeds for in my proper garden.

We had a great time at Guide camp this weekend.  Though we did have torrential rain about 10 minutes after the girls arrived.  We had a family campfire dinner planned.  Luckily the folks at the Camp let us use their dining hall AND luckily supper was ham and cheese buns.  They would have been better all hot and melty, but they were good cold too.  The rest of camp was beautiful weather.

Now sleeping, that was another story.  The girls were wound for sound and had the crazies until 11:30.  Ella and a couple of the other girls retreated to the living room in an attempt to get some sleep.  Ella was nearly in tears wanting to sleep.  At least they would sleep in, right?   Nope, they were up and ready to go at 5!!

And finally for Yarn Along/Crafting On, I’ve been working on Grandma’s scarf.  I wish I could memorize the body pattern, but I just can’t seem to figure it out.  I’m really happy with the way it’s turning out.

Nothing extra planned this week.  Though I do still have to clean up from camp (the girls don’t wash so well).  Next week, not so much.  We’ve got something booked on EVERY SINGLE DAY!
