Finally some sunshine.  Colin and Dad hard at the planting.

A very happy sight to see last week – Hard Red Spring Wheat.

475 acres in 11 days, plus 2 days planting for a neighbour too.  One tuckered out Farmer.  We ended up with about 25 acres that just won’t/can’t be planted this year.  Some is STILL underwater and those not underwater are very, very squishy.  It is such a relief to have the crops finally planted.

Look at this beauty growing under my laundry stand.  I have had columbine and Granny’s Bonnets in my garden for years and I’m always amazed at the new combinations that pop up from year to year.  I’ll have to watch for seeds for in my proper garden.

We had a great time at Guide camp this weekend.  Though we did have torrential rain about 10 minutes after the girls arrived.  We had a family campfire dinner planned.  Luckily the folks at the Camp let us use their dining hall AND luckily supper was ham and cheese buns.  They would have been better all hot and melty, but they were good cold too.  The rest of camp was beautiful weather.

Now sleeping, that was another story.  The girls were wound for sound and had the crazies until 11:30.  Ella and a couple of the other girls retreated to the living room in an attempt to get some sleep.  Ella was nearly in tears wanting to sleep.  At least they would sleep in, right?   Nope, they were up and ready to go at 5!!

And finally for Yarn Along/Crafting On, I’ve been working on Grandma’s scarf.  I wish I could memorize the body pattern, but I just can’t seem to figure it out.  I’m really happy with the way it’s turning out.

Nothing extra planned this week.  Though I do still have to clean up from camp (the girls don’t wash so well).  Next week, not so much.  We’ve got something booked on EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Things are looking up from last week.  We’ve got all the corn planted.  Well, all of the corn that’s getting planted this year.  Some of the corn ground will have to be planted with soy beans (still under water).  Colin’s got a lot of the wheat planted too but I think there’s still some acres still waiting.  Raining today, so things will have to wait a bit longer.

I made the beef stroganoff on Saturday (not as scheduled) and it was SO YUMMY!  I used my homemade cream of something soup mix and added beef stock instead of just water.  Even Ella commented a couple times at how yummy it was -definitely a keeper.

Did I tell you about Comic-Con last week?  It was in Ottawa this weekend so that’s what Ella and I did on Sunday.  Wow, people in Ottawa wake up way earlier than the folks in Toronto.  We usually go first thing Sunday morning so that the crowds aren’t too bad.  That works in Toronto.  I think there were more people in costume in Ottawa, there was certainly more Steampunk folks.

Nurse Joy was a hit like always.  Ella got stopped a number of times for pictures.

I think she’s fighting off a bit of a head cold and had a rough night, so she kind of passed out on the way home (something she rarely ever does).

Menu Plan Monday again.  Nothing too interesting last week, just watching the water levels around here going up and up.  There are houses so far under water that they are likely completely wrecked.  We drove over by Golden Lake/Deacon and it’s unbelievable the amount of water everywhere.  We’ve got about 20 acres under water but at least it’s not up to our house.  Though if the seeds don’t get in that means no income to live on (crop insurance only applies if the seeds get in the ground), so I really hope the rain stops soon (at least until late June).

Ella’s last day of swimming lessons this week.  Hopefully she passes this time.  Even if she doesn’t I think I’ll register her for level 6 any way.  I’ve watched the ‘6’ kids and they don’t swim any better than Ella and don’t do anything she hasn’t learned already.

I really hope we can get some spring soon.  We’ve had flurries yesterday and today.  And today, the snow is actually piling up in places.  Seriously Mother Nature, it’s the 8th of May!  How much you want to bet it’s going to go from 3C (37F) to 30C (86F) and humid -blah!

What a miserable first day of May!  It has rained all day long.  We were luckier than Ottawa, they really took a beating.  In the end we got about 2 1/2 inches of rain.  The river had been receding, but I think it’s just as far up in the field as it was 2 weeks ago.

We got our pictures from Maureen at Gal Capone Photography.  They all look so great, it’s going to be hard to choose which ones to print and frame.

Monday:

Tuesday:

What a beautiful spring morning!  We’ve actually had nearly a week of non-rain (though not always sunny).  I think we can almost see a bit of the water going down.  It’s still going to be a while before that land is crop-able.  Colin may have to alter his plans and put in some soy beans in the acres currently under water.

Not too much on the schedule this week.  Though we do have Grandma’s birthday on Thursday (though we’re having her ‘party’ Friday evening).  The tree guy is coming this morning to take down some big branches around the house.  It will be sad to lose the shade, but it would be sadder to lose the house because the tree fell on it or ripped out the hydro lines and burnt the house down.  We had to have the big bass wood tree in front of the house taken down a month or so ago.  Wow, do we ever notice the difference in the living room.  We’ll need to find some fast-growing replacements.

Monday:

Chip Pit  🙂

leftover honey garlic chicken wings

Tuesday:

Caesar salad

hamburgers

Wednesday:

sandwiches

Mc D’s because we need to be to Renfrew a bit early

Thursday:  Grandma’s birthday!!

Grandma wants chicken and dressing, but we just had a whole chicken a while ago and I really don’t want to do another 7lb chicken right now.  I’m going to try baking chicken pieces (probably quarters) on top of dressing and see how that works.

Saturday:

leftover honey mustard chicken

Sunday:

beef stew (Make-a-Mix book)
