We got a bit of snow on the weekend, but Colin is still going to try to finish combining Dad’s corn.  Sure hope he can get it done, he’s more than ready to be done.  We want Daddy to be done too.  We’re going for our Christmas tree when Daddy’s done the corn!

Merry arrived for her Advent visit.  Now we’ll have to watch for elf mischief.  Ella and Faith love when Merry visits.

How’s your Christmas prep coming?  I’m struggling with getting the house clean and haven’t started any baking.  I’m not sure what’s wrong this year.  I DO have all my shopping finished so that’s a big plus.

I did get the table cleared off and our Advent wreath set up in time for supper last night (ignore the cranky tween, she was hangry).

Monday:

sandwiches -probably in the field with Daddy (-25C windchill today)

leftover Chinese from the weekend (something else for picky Ella)

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

supper out -last Guide meeting till new year

Thursday:

beef stew -new recipe

Friday:

Colin’s off combining corn again today.  We had snow last night so he wasn’t sure, but we had enough wind overnight to shake off the snow.  Hopefully the ground will hold, the ground isn’t frozen and it’s supposed to get warm later this week.

Ella’s got homeschool bowling later this week, that’s always fun.  Getting ready to start our Christmas baking and enjoying the Advent season starting on Sunday.  This year the Santa Claus parade in Renfrew is an evening one.  That will be interesting.

Facebook has been showing me some cute old pictures with their “on this day” posts.  Here’s a timely one from so long ago.

My kitchen looks like a bomb went off.  Camp stuff is everywhere.  Camp was OK.  Though something happens that I just don’t understand.  EVERY TIME we have camp girls that Ella considers her best friends turn all cliquey and exclude her and whisper about her and hurt her so much.  I know why the one does it, she’s not used to staying up past 8 and gets very moody when tired.  But I don’t get it from the others.  Also, the ones doing it have more than enough quirks to pick on themselves so you would think they would be kinder.  Ella has one friend that tries to stand up for her, but she gets picked on too.  I’ve actually told Ella she doesn’t have to do camp any more -which is sad because that’s such a part of Girl Guides.

Nothing much planned this week.  Just getting everything put back away.  Ella’s at Grandma’s for a couple of days, she really missed Grandma when she was in Bowmanville.

My wonderful Hubby drove on the Bancroft trip Friday.  We lucked out and we didn’t get the “STORMAGEDDON” that the weather folks were freaking out about on Thursday.  It was cold, but the roads were perfect.  Remembrance day was good too.  It was the most beautiful weather I think we’ve ever had. The girls complained about being cold (especially those who didn’t wear winter boots) but I had to take my gloves off from time to time to cool off.  And of course, Ella had a ball at the birthday party.

Busy week getting ready for camp.  I have to bake snacks and find some games in case it’s rainy.

Monday:

leftovers

pizza and salad

Tuesday:

leftover pizza

German pancakes

Wednesday:

French onion soup

pork chops

Thursday:

tuna sandwiches

shepherd’s pie

Oh wow, November feels crazy already.  Just makes me want to hide under the covers.  Friday I have to drive Grandma to Bancroft (2ish hours one way).  Uncle Dennis or Glen will then pick her up and bring her the rest of the way to Bowmanville so she can babysit Great Grandma while Uncle Dennis is away hunting.  Saturday is the Remembrance day parade in Renfrew with the Guides.  Then Ella has a birthday party in the afternoon/evening.  And I have to be back at the Legion to help the Guides serve dinner to the Vets.  The next weekend is Guide camp.  Unfortunately it’s at a new location and I have no idea what I’m working with, makes planning a little hard.

We are ready for some cold, sunny weather.  The corn is very ‘wet’.  We also need the wind to stay calm because nobody’s corn is strong enough to stay standing for long in the wind.

Monday:

pizza

pork chops

Tuesday:

pizza

leftovers

Wednesday:

soup?

German pancakes

Thursday:

grilled cheese

beef stew

Friday:

tuna sandwiches

steak

Saturday:

leftover stew

Sunday:

roast chicken -maybe a roasted garlic chicken this time

You aren’t going to believe this, but Ella has absolutely NO ACTIVITIES this week!!  Archery got cancelled because it’s Halloween night and the kids picked candy over arrows (go figure).  Guides got cancelled because the other leader thought they would be too tired from the evening before??  And this swimming session is done.  I only have to go to town this week for an appointment that Grandma needs.

What was the weather like where you are this morning?  It was wild and crazy here.  The wind blew and the rain poured all night and nearly till noon.  It was so bad that I actually dreamed of the rain and wind.  I don’t know what the final total was, but this morning we’d received about 2 1/4 inches of rain.  So glad the soybeans are done.

To be honest, last week’s menu plan went out the window, so you’ll see some “repeats” this week that just didn’t get made last week.

Monday:

pizza

slow cooker beef stroganoff

Tuesday:

macaroni and cheese

BBQ meatballs

Wednesday:

McD’s with Grandma

leftover stroganoff

Thursday:

sandwiches

leftover meatballs

Friday:

potato soup

sesame chicken and Shanghai noodles -I only do Asian inspired meals when Ella’s not home

Saturday:

Ella and I won’t be home for supper, so we’ll have to find something to leave for Daddy

Sunday:

?? depends on what I pick up at the butcher’s (if I get to the butcher’s this week)

Colin is finishing up the soy beans today, just in time since they are calling for rain off and on for the rest of the week.  They are turning out OK.  Nothing fabulous, but certainly better than they could have been after the year we had.  Now to wait for the corn to dry enough.

Feels like a busy week, but not really.  I got all the paperwork filled out for Guide camp in November.  Are you ready for this?  It actually got approved the FIRST time I sent it in!!  We’re having to go to a new place because we were too slow picking a date and our usual place is booked/closed.  The bedroom situation is better at this place (more rooms with smaller numbers) so hopefully we can actually get some sleep.  We’ve also got an actual kitchen which gives us more options for food.

Ella’s excited to have Grandma come to archery this week.  Guides are having a Halloween party.  Speaking of Halloween and archery, did I tell you Ella’s friend from archery invited her to a Halloween party on Saturday?  Ella had so much fun and made 2 more friends.

She’s a ‘school girl vampire’ like in the Monster High books.  She found her costume pieces at Value Village so this is the cheapest costume we’ve ever had since her early fairy costumes.

sandwiches

easy roast chicken and baked potatoes (our potatoes!)

crock pot beef stroganoff -will look for link or post recipe
