I’m going to start this Farm Girl Friday post with a question. How do you farm girls get your laundry, especial whites, clean? We have very hard water (hard enough to stand on-ha ha) and I can’t seem to get anything really white. Colin’s dress shirts have dirty collars -and I just washed them (and dried in the sunshine). My white blouses are positively orange from the sunscreen!! Yet another reason I hate wearing sunscreen.
Please help!!
Now for something to make a farm girl happy:
My sewing machine back from the machine doctor. It had a tune up and cleaning. Now it works great and is as clean as new. I don’t think it’s been this clean in years 🙂
I use a scrub brush and hydrogen peroxide on collars and stains, and white vinegar in the rinse water. Try using washing soda or borax with your detergent. I’ve been a bit careless this year, and things are looking dull. Our hot water heater has a water softener, but I always wash in cold water. Rain water was the old trick, but that’s useful only for handwashing.
I have STOPPED using bleach, preferring instead to use washing soda and borax.
What kind of sunscreen? I* have never had this problem and we have it on daily.
Marlyn, so happy to see your blog back. But so sorry you are so stressed right now. We’ve tried a number of different sunscreens. Ombrelle, Coppertone, President’s Choice, basically any kind I can find with 60+ SPF. I’m at my wit’s end with the sunscreen stains. We’re going to have to give up light colours for the summer 🙂
