This is Christmas present number 2. And this time I can tell you who it’s for because my Mom doesn’t have internet and doesn’t read the blog. It’s a shawl for Grandma Hattie (aka Mom). It’s made from Misti Alpaca. I know what you are thinking, isn’t this the Mom that’s ‘allergic’ to alpaca and you would be right. But this shawl will be worn over clothes (most likely sweatshirt and turtleneck) and not against her bare skin. It will be nice for snuggling in her new reclining chair and ‘watching’ tv. I’m using another pattern out of my Sock Yarn One Skein Wonder book, it’s the Petal Shawlette. It’s working up nicely, but I’m glad I’m used to reading charts. I certainly wouldn’t suggest this pattern for a novice chart knitter -at least no without a highlighter and a ruler.
I rarely (never) buy a knitting book just because Ella wanted it, but this book is the exception. I bought Spud and Chloe at the Farm. It has to be one of the cutest books I’ve seen. Of course Ella wants me to make one of everything. Maybe she’ll get a set for her birthday.
This is what happens when you drink too much Coke and then can’t sleep. You get to be number 6 over at Ginny‘s Small Things Yarn Along. Head over and see what everyone else is making -when it’s a reasonable hour 🙂
Your shawl looks lovely. That book may become a gift here for my little one. Thank you for sharing. In our part of the world it’s still early:)

Love spud and Chloe. I don’t know where you come up with these books. I guess since the city has no real wool shop I would never expect to find such jems. get knitting while it is still COLD out!
We often stop in Peterborough for a bit of a break (coming from Scarborough) since the next stop is usually Bancroft. And one of the best places to stretch our legs is Chapters. Ella gets to play and Momma gets to check out books. I most often buy my books from Amazon because they are cheaper, but with knitting books it’s always good to look at them first.
Spud & Chloe is so wonderful! I love the idea and the designs … altho I think the wool on Spud is too finicky a st for me, but it does look marvelous …
And the shawl is a gorgeous colorway!
Enjoy
I love the sock yarn One Skein Wonder book, too. One of my knitting friends even has a pattern published in it:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/swan-shawl-2
Your shawl is just beautiful!
I just love that Spud and Chloe book!
I’ve been looking at the swan shawl too. It’s a little fancy for sleeping, I mean watching tv. I’d love to make it, I just have to think of someone shawl-worthy. Or maybe I’ll make it for me 🙂
I have never heard of the Spud and Chloe books! It looks really cute, but I am not a very advanced knitter! The shawl is lovely. Alpaca wool is so soft and warm.
The patterns look very easy. Remember, the critters are broken down into smaller pieces. I think it would be a good beginner project because it would have nearly instant gratification. And if you had to rip something out, it would only be a few stitches and few rows.
I have seen that book so many times and resisted. Maybe I should rethink that decision…
You have chosen quite a pretty shawl!
What a beautiful shawl! The pattern looks lovely. I’m not a chart reader, though, so it sounds pretty intimidating.
I’ve eyed the Spud and Chloe book before – so very sweet!
The charts run over 2 pages -don’t know why they did that. If you photocopied and taped them together and then crossed off each row as you completed it, I don’t think it would be that hard.
I have two alpaca sweaters know how itchy & picky they can be, but worn over other clothes is fine. They are a nice alternative on cooler fall/spring days or even in the winter on warmer days. I have been known to wear them in the hockey rinks.
‘Mom’ will appreciate the gift, I am sure!

The book looks cute and it’s so good of you to be working on Christmas gifts already! I considered making my mom and sister both cardigans for Christmas, but I don’t know if I’m up for that challenge! And I always wondered how to get so close to the top of the list…looks like I’ll have to save my coffee for later at night so that I can make it to midnight! 🙂
